Whether you are walking or running as an individual or as part of a team, collecting pledges can be a challenge. Here are a few simple tips to make it fun and easy:
Write It: Start a letter or email writing campaign to your friends, family, co-workers and contacts in your address book. In your email or letter, share your story of why you are walking and include how the proceeds will benefit CancerCare. The more letters or emails you send the more money you will raise!
Set a Goal: Before you start fundraising, set a goal that you believe you can attain. Make sure to mention your goal to people you are asking for donations. They might increase the amount of their donation knowing that they are helping you achieve a specific goal.
Spare Change: Have loose change in your pocket or purse? Put it to good use by starting a "Loose Change Drive" at home or at work. Create a piggy bank into which family members or co-workers can make a daily "deposit." You'll be surprised at how quickly spare change can add up to hundreds of dollars!
Plan a Special Event: Organize a party or group outing—such as bowling, golfing, a dance or a movie night—and charge an admission fee with proceeds benefiting CancerCare. Team up with an organization you're affiliated with, like your exercise class, book club, or church group.
