Fundraising Headquarters

Fundraising for CancerCare is easy and fun. The more money you raise, the more you help CancerCare to continue to provide free support services to people affected by cancer. Here are some tips to gain fundraising success.

Tip 1: Set a Goal

Challenge yourself, but be realistic with your goal. Having a goal will help motivate your fundraising efforts and inspire friends and family to help you reach your goal.

Tip 2: Get Personal

Reach out to your friends and acquaintances in a variety of ways. You can ask them face-to-face, but you could also try sending them a quick letter or an email inviting them to help you reach your goal.

Who can you reach out to? Anyone. It could be close friends and family, co-workers, fellow club or activity members such as teammates or your fellow students. The more you reach out, the more money you will raise. It’s that simple.

Know CancerCare. Before you reach out, learn about CancerCare and the services that it provides. People generally like to learn about the causes that they are supporting. Check out www.cancercare.org and www.lungcancer.org to learn more so that you can answer questions that people might ask about CancerCare.

Share your story. It helps to share your story. Ask yourself why you are participating in the Lung Cancer Walk? It might be to honor a survivor, or to remember someone, or just to raise fund for a great cause. Whatever your reason, share it. It might help gain support.

Fundraise online and personalize your Walker Webpage. Once you register online you will have a walker webpage that you can use to start online fundraising. You can upload your own photos and create a personalized message to your supporters. View A Helpful Guide to Online Fundraising for more helpful tips.

Tip 3: Get Creative

Get creative with your fundraising. Here is a list of possibilities. Take our suggestions or come up with some of your own.

Plan A Special Event. Team up with a group you belong to (church, book club, athletic team, etc.) or go it on your own. Organize a party or special outing and charge admission to benefit the Lung Cancer Walk.

Sell Something. Think bake sale, car wash or eBay. Give the proceeds to the Lung Cancer Walk.

Spare Change. Gather up your spare change. Send out an email to your friends and family members and tell them you want to collect their spare change to benefit the Lung Cancer Walk.

Match It. Ask a local business or your employer to match the funds that you raise. They could donate fifty cents on the dollar, dollar for dollar, or even two-for-one. Talk to your company about setting up a matching gift program. It’s a great way to double or even triple the amount that you raise.

It’s easy to keep your friends updated on your fundraising progress through status updates and tweets. Another idea is to update your email signature with a link to your personal fundraising web page or to www.cancercare.org/lungcancerwalk.
